Earth Day Every Day design contest winner
University Sustainability Practices selected Reishan Leo, an undergraduate
biochemistry major, as the 2024 Earth Day Every Day Design Contest winner.
USP will have Leo’s design, “Green Innovations: ASU’s Sustainable Design for Earth Day,” printed on two LOGO Brands tumblers and painted on the windows of the Memorial Union on the ASU Tempe campus.
Reishan Leo is an undergraduate biochemistry major at the ASU College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
ASU’s colors inspired the design to connect with school spirit. Leo included elements to highlight ASU’s commitment to the environment, such as solar panels showing the importance of renewable energy, plants emphasizing sustainability, and the iconic Old Main building blending ASU’s rich history.
“To me, sustainability is about living in a way that respects and preserves the world around us for future generations. It means making thoughtful choices in our daily lives, from reducing waste and conserving energy to supporting renewable resources and protecting natural habitats,” says Leo. “Each detail is thoughtfully chosen to convey a message of hope and action toward a more sustainable future, directly connecting with the spirit of Earth Day.”
Five guest judges from various ASU departments chose the design from nine submissions for the annual contest. Judges selected Leo’s design because of the distinct sustainability messaging and strong connection to ASU.
Second- and third-place designs that spoke to ASU’s sustainability goals were also selected. USP rewarded designers with custom tumblers and gift cards to the LOGO Brands website.
