The Organizational Performance Office
The Organizational Performance Office works with university staff to develop approaches that improve the operations and services of the ASU community. We provide business support services in business process improvement, project and change management, Lean Six Sigma and ASU Spark MethodTM training.
Our goal is to empower and support the university by addressing these four critical areas.
- Develop long-term organizational strategic plans.
- Develop goals that align with the unit’s strategy and establish performance metrics.
- Improve processes to meet university service and performance requirements.
- Enhance employees’ skills and abilities to achieve excellent operational performance.
Business improvement
We assist in evaluating business operations and current measurement systems to identify opportunities for improvement. This can involve the following methods.
Operational assessment
- Adaptation of business concepts and process improvement methods for ASU’s work environment.
- Assess departmental, unit and process readiness for process-based improvement activities and transformation.
- Benchmark performance.
- Metrics and reporting development.
Operational improvement
- Consult on business process improvement or change management methods for departmental projects.
- Facilitate dialogue with key stakeholders to create and implement process improvement plans.
- Share resources such as business playbook templates, Lean Six Sigma and project standard methods.
Change Management
Change management provides a systematic approach to attain goals and fully achieve desired outcomes — these skills have never been more critical.
In today’s dynamic business environment, organizations must undergo changes in organizational structures, processes, staffing, systems and more to maintain a competitive advantage and ensure the capability of providing high quality services to our customers. Successful implementation of these changes requires effective management to assist staff in adapting seamlessly.
We utilize Prosci’s ADKAR model to guide, instill confidence and motivate staff to embrace change. We can assist you in developing strategies to reduce resistance and creating opportunities for effective and open communication.

The Lean Six Sigma environment relies on tools and templates to systematically remove waste and reduce variation. Participants learn the DMAIC phases – define, measure, analyze, improve and control – to use for process improvement initiatives.

Project Management
The Organizational Performance Office provides project management resources to execute department, enterprise and process-level projects. Our projects help units:
- Achieve operating goals.
- Create new services.
- Implement new technologies and processes.
- Overcome operational challenges.
OPO follows industry-standard project management practices and offers skilled project management staff to effectively lead projects. We provide consulting and guidance to existing project teams as required, ensuring consistency through standardized operating procedures, templates and tools.
