Sustainable Purchasing
ASU Supply Chain Management and University Sustainability Practices are committed to integrating sustainability into its purchasing practices, focusing on both internal guidance and external supplier engagement.
Empowering ASU purchasers
- Sustainable Purchasing Guidelines: A comprehensive criteria to assist purchasers in making environmentally responsible choices. Refer to the Sustainable Purchasing Guidelines when making purchasing decisions.
- Guided buying tools: Provided resources to streamline the selection of sustainable products.
- Department-focused support: Provide tailored sustainable purchasing solutions, including tailored sustainable purchasing training, market research and guidance on sustainable products and services for any ASU purchase.
- Email University Sustainability Practices for expert advice to help departments increase the sustainability of their services and products.
- RFP sustainability support: Required set of sustainability questions used in every formal ASU solicitation — request for proposal — to evaluate how a supplier’s operations align with ASU’s sustainability goals. The questionnaire accounts for at least 10% of the total evaluation score.
Additional product- and service-specific sustainability questions may be added to meet the unique needs of each RFP. The Sustainable and Inclusive Procurement team is available to support the development and customization of these criteria. Please email Procurement for assistance in the assessment process.
- Sustainability compliance: ASU Standard Terms and Conditions reflect our commitment to responsible purchasing. Suppliers are required to:
- Comply with environmental regulations to minimize negative impacts.
- Uphold fair labor practices, including health, safety and non-discrimination.
- Maintain ethical business conduct, including adherence to anti-corruption laws.
- Allow monitoring and review to ensure compliance with ASU’s terms.
- Suppliers are also encouraged to promote sustainability practices throughout their supply chains.
