Sustainability events, engagement and training raise awareness, inspire action and build skills to tackle environmental and social challenges. Join University Sustainability Practices as we share sustainable practices, and empower individuals and organizations to turn knowledge into meaningful action for lasting positive change.
Spring events
Sustainable Offices Virtual Training
A combination of expertise across ASU's University Sustainability Services, Zero Waste, and Procurement teams, this training equips ASU employees with the tools and resources necessary to make their workplaces as sustainable as possible, aligning with the university's goals and priorities. By the end of this training, employees will be able to:
- Familiarize and engage in sustainable practices in the workplace
- Recognize why each office’s efforts help ASU meet its sustainability goals
- Reduce and properly dispose of waste on campus
- Take action to support a culture of sustainability in your department or office
This virtual training begins March 16, 2026, from 10 to 11 a.m.
Sustainable Event Planner Training: Downtown Phoenix
Learn how to plan events sustainably and contribute to ASU's sustainability goals! This training covers all aspects of event planning, including catering, digital marketing, sustainable swag and more! The training will be held at the Downtown Phoenix campus and is open to 45 ASU faculty and staff from all campuses.
In-person training begins March 26, 2026, from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. at Arizona Center, room 265.
Sustainability Walking Tours
Take a walk around campus with a guide from USP while learning about our sustainability points of pride on the Tempe, Downtown Phoenix and Polytechnic campuses.
The ASU sustainability walking tours are guided tours focusing on showcasing the efforts and initiatives being made at ASU to promote sustainability. The tours explore various sustainable design features of ASU's built environment, as well as different sustainable practices and programs across campus. Participants will learn about the challenges and successes of implementing sustainable practices at ASU, as well as the impact of these efforts on the community and the environment. All walking tour routes are planned with accessibility in mind.
In addition to our scheduled walking tour dates, we also offer the opportunity to sign up for a private group tour. Please select the private tour option at the bottom of the signup form. Email USP with questions.

| Blue Bag Sorts | Come by the Zero Waste Office and learn about the lifecycle of waste after it’s tossed in a bin and discover reusable alternatives to common single-use items. This hands-on experience highlights the impact of recycling and offers practical tips for reducing waste in everyday life. |
| Garden Commons Volunteer Days | Come join us for a day of volunteering at Garden Commons, open to all in the ASU Community. The specific tasks for the day vary but will be outdoors and include working in the garden with dirt and insects. |
| Cakes and Cacti | Sun Devil Hospitality is showcasing sustainability and locally harvested ingredients at a free pancake breakfast on the Engrained patio. The pancakes will be made from local mesquite flour and served with orange syrup from oranges grown and harvested at the Garden Commons. The ASU Garden Commons will provide cactus and succulents for the first 30 participants. |
| Garden Commons Farm Stand | Join the Garden Commons for bi-weekly fresh produce distribution! Bring your reusable bag for any items you want to take home with you. All produce is harvested from the ASU Polytechnic Garden Commons. FREE to students — up to three items); first come, first serve. |

| Fair Trade Showcase | Join in ASU's commitment as the largest Fair Trade University in the nation and attend the Fair Trade Showcase! Fair Trade Companies will be present to discuss their commitment to people and the environment, as well as Sun Devil Hospitality and University Sustainability Practices. |
| Cakes and Cacti | Sun Devil Hospitality showcased locally harvested ingredients during a pancake breakfast. Breakfast was pancakes made from mesquite flour and served with orange syrup from oranges grown and harvested at Garden Commons. Garden Commons hosted garden tours, a plant sale and demonstrations of our sustainable practices. The annual Garden Commons plant sale features cacti, agaves, herbs and vegetables grown by student volunteers, as well as flower, herb and vegetable seeds saved from the Garden Commons. Plant sale proceeds help benefit our programs. |

Whether you're passionate about climate solutions, love live music, or simply want to celebrate Earth Day in style, there's something for everyone. |
| Earth Day Every Day Walk | Join University Sustainability Practices at the ASU Earth Day Walk for a unique opportunity to embrace eco-friendly practices and celebrate our planet. Participants will complete 3.5 laps — 1.5 miles — around the iconic Mountain American Stadium to symbolize the urgent need to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels to prevent irreversible damage to the earth. This event welcomes all who wish to contribute to a greener tomorrow, including all students, staff, faculty, alumni and community members! The first 200 participants will receive an Earth Day Every Day T-shirt or green bandana. |
| Earth Day Food Trucks | Enjoy lunch in the Walton Center for Planetary Health atrium, provided by local food trucks who specialize in healthy and eco-friendly vegan and vegetarian dining options for attendees. A limited number of meal vouchers will be available to registered guests of the Global Futures Laboratory Earth Day Celebration, while supplies last. |
| Global Futures Laboratory Earth Day 2025 events | Join the Global Futures Laboratory in a special celebration of our planet and all of its inhabitants. Programs across this three-hour event include a youth leadership panel focusing on Conversation on Impact, an Earth Day edition of Global Futures Conversation and the State of Global Futures Address by ASU Vice President and Vice Provost of Global Futures, Peter Schlosser, as well as other presentations from Global Futures Scientists and Scholars. |
| Ditch the Dumpster | Every year ASU students moving off-campus realize they have accumulated more stuff than they need or have space for. Ditch the Dumpster allows students to donate these unwanted items for the reuse, repurpose or recycling of those items in a way that supports local non-profits and teaches the ASU community about proper recycling and reuse. Bins for general donations, non-perishable food, hygiene products and cleaning products will be located at each ASU residential hall. |

Staff, faculty and students were invited to submit sustainability designs and invited to create their designs in chalk. Attendees can vote on their favorite designs as they stroll the chalk plots. | Fair Trade Tabling Event | Stop by to learn about the significance of Fair Trade, connect with campus resources and enjoy some Fair Trade treats courtesy of University Sustainability Practices and Sun Devil Hospitality. |
| Cakes and Cacti: Plant Sale and Pancake Breakfast | Sun Devil Hospitality and USP celebrated Earth Day Every Day at the Garden Commons on the Polytechnic Campus! Attendees practiced sustainability by eating a hyper-local breakfast with mesquite pancakes made from local mesquite tree flour, fresh squeezed orange juice from oranges at the Garden Commons and coffee from a local roaster. There was also a plant sale of cacti and succulents grown at the Garden Commons. |

Sun Devils can learn about ASU’s sustainability goals and how to get involved by participating in one of the many events held throughout the year at ASU. Campus sustainability events include special engagement during campus sustainability events in October and Earth Day Every Day events in April, focusing on local action and sustainability solutions on college and university campuses.
