Sun Devil Card Services is introducing the ASU Mobile ID in the ASU Mobile App as the official university identification to improve security and convenience.

General Mobile ID questions

Do I have to enroll in the ASU Mobile ID program?

If you are a student, employee or affiliate that needs to use on-campus services, you must obtain an ASU Mobile ID. Existing ASU ID cardholders may continue to use their ASU ID Card. If you do not have compatible technology to get an ASU Mobile ID, you can submit an exemption request to have a physical card printed. Existing cardholders will be offered the opportunity to upgrade to an ASU Mobile ID at a later date.

Is the ASU Mobile ID just for students?

Students, faculty, staff and approved affiliates using campus services are eligible if they meet all device and software requirements. 

Can I have a physical ASU ID Card and an ASU Mobile ID?

No. Once you request and set up an ASU Mobile ID, your existing physical card is deactivated permanently.

Is there a cost to get an ASU Mobile ID?

Yes, there is a $25 fee for any ASU ID.

Do I need a photo?

Yes, you must have an approved photo on file to be eligible for any ASU ID.

What’s the difference between a physical ID card and the ASU Mobile ID?

Physical cards and the ASU Mobile ID are official university IDs and are accepted for all services on campus. The ASU Mobile ID provides enhanced security and privacy, allowing card users to be worry-free with transactions and building entrance access.  

How many devices can I set up my ASU Mobile ID on?

  • Android: One Android phone.
  • Apple: Up to two devices, one iPhone and one Apple Watch, can be signed into iCloud with the same Apple Account.

What happens if I get a new device?

  1. Remove your ASU Mobile ID from the old device.
  2. Add your ASU Mobile ID to the new device using the ASU Mobile App.

Using ASU Mobile ID

What do I do if my ASU Mobile ID is not pairing with the reader?

The near-field communication antenna must directly face the reader to activate the ASU Mobile ID on your devices successfully. The NFC antenna location varies by device manufacturer and model. If you are unsure where the NFC antenna is located, refer to your phone provider’s webpage: Apple, Google Pixel, HTC, Huawei, LG, Motorola or Samsung.

What information is included on the ASU Mobile ID?

Your ASU Mobile ID includes your ASU ID number, campus classification, legal name and preferred name.

The ASU Mobile App also provides transactional history and account balance to help card users manage their meal plan or Maroon and Gold account.

What do I do if my device is lost or stolen?

  • Android devices: Please email Sun Devil Card Services or call 480-965-2273. Leave a voicemail clearly stating your name, ASU ID number and contact information if you call after business hours.
  • Apple devices: Please reference the Apple-specific directions below.

What do I do if there were fraudulent charges on my account?

What do I do if my phone runs out of battery?

iPhones XS and laterExpress Mode with power reserve is available for up to five hours after the device’s battery needs to be charged. Press the side button to check if Express Mode is available when your iPhone needs to be charged. Doing this often may significantly reduce the power reserve for Express Mode. This feature will not be available if you power off your iPhone.

Android, iPhone 6 or 6 Plus–iPhone X: Your device must have battery power to use the ASU Mobile ID.

Can I use my ASU Mobile ID without a cellular signal?

You can use the ASU Mobile ID even if your phone does not have network connectivity, as it is stored on your device. A network connection is required to set up your ASU Mobile ID through the ASU Mobile App.

Will the ASU Mobile ID work with off-campus merchants?

Yes, you can use your ASU Mobile ID at off-campus merchants where Maroon and Gold Dollars are accepted. Please visit the Sun Devil Hospitality webpage for more information on where Maroon and Gold Dollars are accepted.

How do I use the ASU Mobile ID or meal plans on my account from my phone?

The same way you have always used your plastic card by tapping the reader with your phone instead of swiping or tapping your card.

I have my iPhone and Apple Watch set up. What if I lose one of them?

Your other device will continue to work; however, you should mark the missing device as lost through your iCloud account until it is found. 

What happens if I lose my iPhone or Apple Watch and then find it afterward?

  1. Use Find My iPhone to suspend or deactivate your ASU Mobile ID in the Apple Wallet or contact Sun Devil Card Services at 480-965-2273 during business hours to deactivate the device's card in the Apple Wallet.
  2. Once the device is located, you can reactivate the ASU Mobile ID through your iCloud account or contact SDCS if deactivated through the office.

What is the ASU Mobile ID in the Apple Wallet?

The ASU Mobile ID in Apple Wallet is an initiative of Sun Devil Card Services whereby your iPhone and Apple Watch can take on the functionality of your ASU ID Card. Anywhere you can swipe a card, you can use your iPhone or Apple Watch.

What do I need to use my ASU Mobile ID in my Apple Wallet?

  • Apple Account signed into iCloud.
  • Apple Watch Series 1 or later running the latest version of watchOS.
  • ASU Mobile App.
  • DUO Two-Factor Authentication enabled.
  • iPhone SE, iPhone 6s Plus or later running the latest version of iOS.

How do I add my ASU Mobile ID to my Apple Wallet?

  1. Download the ASU Mobile App and log in.
  2. Enable Duo Two-Factor Authentication.
  3. Ensure you have an approved photo on file.
  4. Select Add to Wallet to set up your ASU Mobile ID.
  5. Once the device is located, you can reactivate the ASU Mobile ID through your iCloud account or contact SDCS if deactivated through the office.

I am having trouble adding the ASU Mobile ID to my Apple Wallet. Who can help me?

How do I verify my Apple Watch device version?

The Apple Watch series number is on the back of the device. Note: The Series 0 Apple Watch is not eligible for this program.

How do I verify or update my Apple Watch software version?

Refer to the Update your Apple Watch webpage for instructions on verifying or updating your Apple Watch.

How many devices can I use my ASU Mobile ID in the Apple Wallet?

You can use your ASU Mobile ID on up to two devices, one iPhone and one Apple Watch, that are signed into iCloud with the same Apple ID.

How do I change or recover my Apple Account password?

Refer to the Apple password support webpage for instructions.

What happens if I lose my iPhone or Apple Watch, but find it later?

Use Find My iPhone to suspend or deactivate your ASU Mobile ID in your Apple Wallet. Refer to the lost and stolen iPhone instructions for more information.

You can also deactivate the Mobile ID by logging into My ASU Campus Services and selecting Initiate Deactivation under the Dining tab.

Once you find the device, you can reactivate it via icloud.com and contact Sun Devil Card Services to reactivate your ASU Mobile ID.

What happens if I get a new device?

  1. Remove your ASU Mobile ID from the old device's Apple Wallet.
  2. Add your ASU Mobile ID to the new device using the ASU Mobile App.

Why can’t I double-tap the home or side button when my iPhone is locked to see my ASU Mobile ID balances in Apple Pay?

When using Express Mode via an iPhone 6s or later, your ASU Mobile ID will not be displayed with other cards in the Apple Wallet for security reasons.

If I have a passcode on my phone, will I have to enter it every time?

You do not have to enter your passcode using Express Mode. You must authenticate when you access your phone if you are not using Express Mode. This is a user security preference. Note: Express Mode is turned on by default.

Can I use ASU Mobile ID if my iPhone has a dead battery?

On iPhone XS, XS Max, XR and more recent devices, Express Mode with power reserve is available for up to five hours after the device’s battery needs to be charged. 

Can I use the ASU Mobile ID in Apple Wallet without a cellular signal?

The ASU Mobile ID in Apple Wallet can be used even if the iPhone or Apple Watch does not have network connectivity, as the ASU Mobile ID is stored on your device. If you are having any difficulty using your ASU Mobile ID to complete a transaction, report any issues to Sun Devil Card Services or contact 480-965-2273 so we can investigate.

Is there a cost to use the ASU Mobile ID?

There is no cost to use your ASU Mobile ID in your Apple Wallet.
