2025 Earth Day Every Day Design Contest
The designs showcase ASU's commitment to sustainability.
University Sustainability Practices selected Jan Janiczek, graphic designer principal, Academic Enterprise Communications, as the fifth annual Earth Day Every Day design contest winner. Janiczek’s design will be printed on two custom tumblers by LOGO Brands and painted on the windows of the Tempe campus Sun Devil Fitness Complex.
Janiczek calls his design Symbiotic Mutualism as it was inspired by humans’ relationship with all living things on earth.

The relationship between flowering plants and pollinators is a perfect representation of mutualism. Each depends on the other to survive and thrive,” said Janiczek.
The flower that Janiczek included in the design is based on the golden Arizona Poppy that covers the floor of the Sonoran Desert every spring. The Arizona Poppy’s golden petals represent ASU’s primary colors, while the green plant stems, pollinators, Earth and sun exemplify ASU’s secondary colors.
“I am proud to work for an institution that takes its commitment to sustainability seriously and takes a holistic approach to sustainability,” said Janiczek. ASU continues to implement sustainable environmental practices and promote the benefits of pollinators. There also aren’t many places where thousands of students and staff are able to live, study and work in a literal arboretum. For me, sustainability is understanding the relationship we have with the plants, animals, and environment around us. We depend on them to survive and thrive. If we do not respect them, then we are only harming ourselves.”
The second- and third-place winners, Reishan Leo and Joahana Segundo, were awarded custom tumblers and gift cards to the LOGO Brands website.
