Carbon mitigation project suggestion
The ASU Carbon Project develops and acquires carbon offsets that reduce the need to purchase carbon offsets in the future and in ways that support the ASU Charter. Use this form is for the submission of ideas for carbon mitigation projects and do not need to be implementation-ready.
The Carbon Fund is managed by University Sustainability Practices under the supervision of the Chief Sustainability Operations Officer, and the CFO and projects are subject to approval processes.
Projects are sought that propose to impact the local community or other communities of interest to ASU.
Only projects meeting the purpose and guidelines are eligible and must address these key program features:
- Funds collected must primarily be used for 1:1 acquisition of carbon mitigation | i.e., when a
department pays $8 ASU “receives” $8 in carbon mitigation.
- For air travel emissions, offsets are an annual acquisition.
- ASU banks all offsets purchased.
- This timing reduces the need to purchase offsets in bulk at a later date to meet an ASU sustainability goal.
- The risk is thus reduced concerning increasing costs of offsets over time.
- The intent is to build momentum in carbon mitigation projects and align them with the academic and research mission of the university.
