Grief is a natural part of life. It can also feel overwhelming and isolating. Whether loss is sudden or long anticipated, grief can affect every area of our lives.
Each year, ASU employees use several hundred hours of bereavement leave to navigate their grief journey. According to the 2025 Grief Tax Report, 94% of employees experienced trouble concentrating at work after a loss.
The GrieveWell at ASU program offers faculty and staff a caring community of colleagues who understand the journey of grief. Staffed by and for ASU employees, the program provides connection, support and hope.
This program creates a space where employees can share experiences, learn from others and find encouragement throughout the grieving process. Grief is a universal experience — and no one should grieve alone.
The GrieveWell at ASU program connects grieving employees with trained peer supporters who share a similar loss. Once matched, the participant and peer supporter agree to meet at a mutually determined frequency for up to 12 months. Depending on your grief experience, the program provides:
Founded in 2010, GrieveWell is a community-based nonprofit in Ann Arbor, Michigan, that has helped hundreds of grieving adults across the country find connection and support. The successful, evidence-based model is built on the foundation of one-to-one peer support, offering a compassionate partnership where healing, hope and personal growth can unfold. Through collaboration with Watt’s College of Public Service and Community Solutions, GrieveWell continues to serve Michigan residents while offering similar services to employees at ASU.
