  3. Public transit

Several public transportation options are available to ASU students, faculty and staff across all four ASU campuses. Sun Devils may purchase discounted transit passes to ride Valley Metro buses and light rail.

Purchase a transit pass

  • For travel to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport visit Valley Metro.
  • For travel to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, consider taking the Gold Route intercampus shuttle.

Visit the Valley Metro lost and found webpage for information about items left on buses, FLASH, light rail or neighborhood circulators.

HOV permits are available for sustainable commuters.

Bus and light rail

Valley Metro provides bus and light rail services throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area. There is at least one Valley Metro bus stop at each of the four ASU campuses, and light rail stops — with service to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport — on the ASU Downtown Phoenix and Tempe campuses. Allow for 35 minutes of travel on the light rail between the Downtown Phoenix and Tempe campuses.

ASU students, faculty and staff may ride Valley Metro buses and light rail for discounted rates by purchasing an ASU transit pass.

Select communities also receive shuttle service through neighborhood circulations, such as Mesa Downtown BUZZ and Tempe's Orbit.

View bus, light rail and neighborhood circulator schedules and routes on the Valley Metro webpage.

High Occupancy Vehicles | HOV and Rideshare

Save time and money while supporting ASU's sustainable goals when you use a Valley Metro HOV service.

These options allow commuters to save time and money, reduce stress and vehicle wear and use the HOV lanes. Find a rideshare partner or an empty seat in a vanpool vehicle by visiting the Share the Ride webpage.

As part of PTS' free emergency ride home program, Sun Devils that need a ride home may stop by any PTS office location from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to pick up a free Valley Metro one-day pass. This pass is good towards Valley Metro bus and light rail services.

Tempe FLASH

On the Tempe campus, Sun Devils can board one of these two, free shuttle routes to get from one campus building or parking location to another. Tempe FLASH service is available Monday through Friday. University holidays and class breaks create limited service.

The shuttles run every 12 to 15 minutes.

FLASH Back | Counterclockwise

Operates Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

FLASH Forward | Clockwise

Operates Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

FLASH limited-service | University holidays and class breaks

Operates Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

View the FLASH schedule and route on the Valley Metro webpage.

HOV permit holders | Free emergency ride home

Being a sustainable Sun Devil by ridesharing to campus helps ASU achieve its university sustainability goals for transportation. If you have an emergency and need a ride, Parking and Transit Services is here to help.

Call PTS dispatch at 480-965-6124 any day the university is open and ask for our emergency ride home service. All HOV permit holders may take advantage of a free ride home up to two each permit year. When you call have your ASU number and HOV permit number ready. After PTS verifies your permit, they will arrange for a free ride home using Lyft.
