EV charging

Charging made easy

Arizona State University is proud to support sustainable transportation by offering EV charging stations across all four campuses. These stations are part of our commitment to reducing carbon emissions, promoting clean energy and empowering the transition to vehicle electrification for students, staff and visitors.

Using EV charging stations

ASU offers more than 120 electric vehicle charging ports. EV drivers may pay for charging in the following ways:

  • Pay $2 per day for unlimited charging until midnight.
  • ASU parking permit holders may also purchase an EV Charging Permit for $20 per month or $240 per year at any EV charging station.

Follow the instructions at each station to process payment.

ASU parking permit holders: Sign in with your ASURITE credentials before initiating payment.

ASU department vehicles

ASU departments with EVs and valid parking permits may use EV charging stations at no cost while their vehicles are actively charging. Charging stations are not reserved for departmental use. Departments must move vehicles once they are fully charged to allow others to use the charging station.

Charging ports and adaptors

The charging stations are equipped with a North American Charging Standard — NACS — SAE J3400 plug and a built-in SAE J1772 adaptor.

EVs with NACS ports

BreatheEV information

ASU also provides select J1772 charging stations on the Tempe campus through the Arizona-based company BreatheEV.

These charging stations are available on the Tempe campus in Lot 44 and Lot 55 at a cost of $0.35/kWh or $2.75 per hour.

Note: This depends on vehicle charging speeds, with a maximum charger speed of 7.87 kW. Idle fees include $15 an hour, or $0.25 per minute, after the 10-minute grace period concluding a charging session to move the vehicle.
