Counseling and consultations
The Employee Assistance Office offers faculty and staff free, voluntary, confidential behavioral health and organizational consultation for personal and work-related issues. EAO counseling services may include assessment, interventions or referral.
Our team uses a brief intervention model — between one and five sessions — to address various issues that may affect employees’ or family members’ well-being, productivity and relationships.
During the initial meeting, a counselor will assess immediate needs, gather a brief history, then work collaboratively to establish goals to help resolve an employee’s concerns. If we cannot meet those goals within the short-term model of care, referrals are provided for ongoing care using employee insurance benefits and community partners.
Call 480-965-2271 for counseling appointments and non-emergencies. After scheduling an appointment, complete the EA intake forms.
Other forms that may be required include the following for review:
Call 911 for life-threatening emergencies, or the behavior health crisis team at 602-222-9944.
Managerial consultation
EAO providers may help address personal or professional concerns of your staff that may affect performance. Contact our office if you have concerns about an employee, observe a behavior change or become of stressors affecting an employee. You may refer the employee to the EAO as a resource to address concerns about their well-being.
Attendance at EAO is voluntary. You cannot mandate that an employee seek assistance or pursue disciplinary action if they do not use the university EAO services. The office will confirm the employee’s first appointment only when a formal supervisory referral is completed.
Managers are encouraged to review the university’s Behavioral Response Team webpage to learn how to help mitigate threatening campus incidents.
