Screenings and classes
Arizona State University benefits-eligible employees can receive a free 30-minute health screening per calendar year. Bring your ASU ID and health insurance card to your screening.
Appointments are required. Visit ASU Events for available free health and hearing screenings. The following tests and measurements are included in the free health screening:
- Blood pressure.
- Blood work: Coronary risk ratio, fructosamine, glucose, HDL, LDL, total cholesterol, triglycerides, VLDL.
- Body mass index
- Height, weight and waist measurements.
- Hemoglobin A1c is for those with diabetes and at high risk.
- Osteoporosis bone density screening. Recommended for women age 40 and older.
- Prostate-specific antigen, PSA. Recommended for men age 40 and older.
Fasting for eight hours before the venous draw is required. Water and medications are permitted. Employees receive results in the mail within 7 to 10 business days. This event is HIP-endorsed, a program available to benefits-eligible state of Arizona employees. Comprehensive blood helps determine the health of many organs and body systems.
Fee-based screenings
Additional tests are available for as low as a $20 copay. Cash or credit card is accepted.
- Blood-count screening is $20.
- C-reactive protein is $35. The examination helps predict the risk for heart attack.
- Food allergy panel is $75. This exam tests sensitivity for 46 food items.
- Food panel is $140. This exam tests sensitivity to 90 food items.
- SMAC lab profile is $20.
- Southwest inhalant allergy test is $80. Exam tests for 45 inhalants.
- Thyroid screen $28
- Both thyroid $58.
- T3, T4 and T7 thyroid is $28.
- TSH thyroid is $38.
- Vitamin D screening is $48.

Weight management programs
Benefits-eligible employees, spouses and dependents age 18 and older can choose from two weight and diabetes management programs offered by the Arizona Department of Administration, Benefit Services Division. These evidence-based programs provide the support and tools to achieve your personal wellness goals.
Workshops by request
Workshops are provided by request to departments. Call 480-965-2271 to schedule or customize a class for your unit.
Assertiveness, 45-60 minutes
Understand the difference between aggressive behavior and behavior that is assertive. This class will give you practical tools and examples of how to use assertiveness to obtain your goals of success without compromising your integrity.
Dealing with difficult people, 45-60 minutes
Learn to recognize and respond to potential internal and external problems, and identify and access recovery-prevention strategies and resources.
Grief in the workplace
Resources and onsite debriefing with a licensed provider to address a recent loss experienced by a work team. Identifies the impact of loss on productivity and the normal and varying reactions to workplace grief.
Managing transitions, 45 minutes
Understand the nature of organizational change and the process individuals go through as a result of any change in their lives and strategies to increase resiliency when faced with these types of transitions.
Mental health basics for managers, 60 minutes
Learn about the prevalence of mental health issues in the workplace. This course is designed for those that manage others as well as those with human resource responsibilities within their units. Individuals will learn how to create a workplace that supports an employee's well-being and how to effectively support and manage those with mental health conditions. Group discussion, participant engagement and problem-solving approaches will be used as learning strategies throughout the workshop.
Mindfulness, 60 minutes
Be familiar with mindfulness and learn to control your mind rather than let it control you. You'll learn how to decrease stress, balance emotions and improve interpersonal effectiveness. Participants will practice some brief mindfulness exercises in class and learn six steps to live mindfully.
Sleep, 45 minutes
Structuring your sleep pattern can go a long way toward improving the consistency and quality of your sleep. Learn techniques and identify disruptions to develop effective sleep hygiene for your life.
Stress management, 45 minutes
An educational and experiential class for groups of all sizes that focuses on understanding the stress response, the implications of exposure to prolonged stress and coping skills to manage the harmful attributes associated with stress. Participants will also engage in stress reduction exercises using experiential activities.
