Buying Computers FAQs

Departments supported by Business and Finance IT should review the BFIT guidelines and contact the BFIT Help Desk for all computer-related purchases. BFIT will help you identify the best solution and vendor for your needs.

ASU has contracts for PCs with Dell, HP, Lenovo, Toshiba and the Sun Devil Technology Center has a contract with Apple computers. Existing contracts make it easy for you to buy a computer because no bidding is required.

If you want to buy a PC, you have two options:

  1. The preferred method is to configure and purchase your computer from a SunMart vendor and use your P-Card or see our Computer Buying Guideline

  2. Select the manufacturer and configure a system according to your needs*. Once you have identified the system and the cost for the PC, generate an RX in Advantage, email a copy of the RX and all supporting documents to Heather Davies.

*The University requires that all desktop computers, notebooks, and monitors purchased must meet Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool Gold status as contained in the IEEE 1680 Standard for the Environmental Assessment of Personal Computer Products. For Apple Purchases, The Sun Devil Marketplace is located in the College Avenue Commons Building. Contact the Sun Devil Marketplace at 480-965-4488 for assistance with configuration or ordering. Your P-Card can be used to order from Apple or you can use an Interdepartmental Purchase Order with FOLLETT as the vendor. Please provide the delivery contact name, campus location and phone number for purchases that include computer systems. Email us or send a fax to 480-727-4335 for quotes or orders. They offer delivery to any campus and will assist with unboxing and removal of shipping boxes. Now enrolling devices in Apple DEP.

The Sun Devil Marketplace is an Authorized Apple Service Provider and will pick up, repair and deliver Apple computers from any campus.

This depends on the availability from the supplier and manufacturer. Contact the supplier for current information.

Your department may have a designated person who is able to set up your system. If you need assistance, call the ASU Information Technology help desk at 480-965-6500. Some suppliers will provide desktop set-up and installation. You will need to request this when you talk to the supplier regarding your purchase.

All contracted PC systems come with a three-year warranty for parts and labor. Apples come with a one-year free warranty or you may purchase an extended warranty.

If your computer is still under warranty, call the manufacturer provided service center which will be identified with the information packet included with your computer system.

If you are looking for licensing and maintenance information, contact the Technology team at 480-965-9514. They will offer assistance to you or refer you to the appropriate source. More and more automated processes are now in place. ASU's preferred method for purchasing computers, printers and accessories is with the P-Card. This is the quickest and easiest way to purchase and receive goods.
