PTS Services: Ride Sharing: Zipcar
What is Zipcar?
You buy pizza by the slice, download music by the song… why not pay for cars by the drive?
Zipcar is a unique car-sharing service for ASU students, faculty and staff, ages 18 and older. It provides affordable access to fuel-efficient, low-emission vehicles by the hour or by the day. Use a Zipcar for errands, for meetings, or just for fun. Gasoline, car insurance, parking and maintenance are included. ASU has 25 cars across all four campuses in its Zipcar fleet.
How does it work?
Once you become a member, you receive a Zipcard. This is your electronic "key" that unlocks the cars. Just make a reservation online for any available car, touch your Zipcard to the windshield reader, hop inside, locate the car keys on the steering column and off you go. When you are done, return the car to its assigned parking space and lock up. It’s that simple.
How much does it cost?
Using Zipcar, you can save big bucks. AAA reports that it costs approximately $634 each month to own a car. Zipcar members just pay one simple hourly (or daily) rate that includes gas, insurance, maintenance, a Zipcar parking space, 180 free miles per trip, roadside assistance and 24-hour customer service. It costs as little as $7.50 per hour and $69 per day, depending on your vehicle selection and time of week. For $634, you could log more than 70 hours of Zipcar driving each month!
There is a $25 annual membership fee, but new members receive $35 in driving credit to use in the first 30 days. So... join and drive today!
