voluntary impact fee

Environmental Impact Fee
Arizona State University-sponsored air travelers now have the option to select an Environmental Impact Fee (EIF) that will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and fund campus emissions-reduction projects. The EIF also enables ASU to comply with item 2c of the American College and University Presidents' Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) signed by ASU President Michael Crow in 2006.
About the Environmental Impact Fee (EIF)
The EIF enhances ASU’s sustainability profile and helps work towards its 2025 carbon neutrality goal.
How the Funds Are Used
The EIF funds are specifically tagged as money to be used for transportation emissions-reducing projects. One example includes the establishment of a videoconferencing infrastructure to eliminate work-related travel.
Tracking the EIF
In an effort to make EIF funds as evident as possible, as funds accumulate, the “dashboard” section of the website will display a continuously updated feed of a variety of metrics, which will include:
- A description and offset calculation of each project funded and the amount awarded to it.
- The total fund revenue and disbursement for the current fiscal year and other related information.
Calculate It Yourself
As part of the second phase of the EIF program, an online calculator using the same factors as the internal calculator will be implemented, so that the impact of the emissions associated with air travel will be apparent. Future iterations also may include a comparison for other forms of transportation for a specified trip, such as car, bus, and train emissions.
